Declan's Surgery...

This is Declan before they took him back in his little Hospital gown...

Well, I did not really announce this surgery because it really is not THAT big of
a procedure...but it is still nerve racking to have your baby be put to sleep and have a tube down his throat and be cut and have stitches.

As most of you might know, Declan wanted to come into this world FIVE weeks early from his due date. He weighed 5lbs. 3 1/2 oz...so he was decent size for already five weeks early, but still quite a little guy. Declan was pretty fragile when he was first born. He had a hard time breathing. Was born with pneumonia. So, with him being in such a state he was not circumcised. The doctors told us we should wait until he was at least a year. So, I finally got the guts to get this going and get it over with. I am so glad this is over. I hate seeing Declan hurt or in a hospital at all. It just makes me ache beyond words...

So, he was scheduled to do it today, March 19th at 7am. We had to be at the Rock Springs Hospital at 6:00am to check him in and get him ready. They said they would start at 7:25am and should be out at 8:00am. Well, they did not come out to get me until 8:30-ish. I was kind of nervous, but I then realized why it was a little extra. I looked at his hands, arms, foot...and I could see that they had a hard time finding a good vein(little poke marks everywhere); which he takes after me I guess (sorry Goober). But, they finally got one in his left foot for the I.V.

When they asked me to come back I was relieved, but I already knew that I was going to cry, because as I was walking I was getting tears. I walked to his bed and they were holding him up. He was waking up and because of the MEDS, he was pretty grouchy--not the normal little Declan. I could not believe how swollen he was. His eyes were red and pupils were hardily there. I just felt horrible and wanted to cry with him. Since he had a tube down his throat while sleeping through the procedure, he did not quite have a voice yet. So when I walked in he was making the slightest noises, but you could tell if he was not so groggy he would be screaming his head off.

They put him in my lap and I gave him his binkie. Same binkie he has had since he was born, such a comforter. Declan only gets it when he sleeps now, but I considered this a good time for one. Shortly they moved him out of recovery and the doctor went to get Kris and later on I went and got Kris's mom and sister Becky...(which thank you for coming and the support :]...oh, and the yummy McDonald Breakfast food while we were waiting for the surgery to be done).

So, all-in-all he was such a good baby. They could not believe how quiet he was, and behaved. I got to be honest, he had every right to be onry or upset, but he did really well. A Doctor kept coming by and Declan kept wanting him to hold him and the Doctor said, "Man, he just got his Woo-hoo messed with and he's still a good happy kid..." I thought that was funny...Woo-hoo :] All of the nurses loved him. When we first got there, if any of you have seen Declan know how friendly of a kid he is, he'll go to pretty much anyone--ANYONE. So, he was trading nurses and doctors the whole time until his surgery. They wanted him to be their mascot at the Hospital and didn't want him to go...

I just got to say how truly thankful I am. I was pretty nervous because of the whole being "put to sleep" and being cut and such. Anything could happen, and we were blessed that nothing did. Heavenly Father continues to look after and bless Declan--and us as parents to have such a child. There is just something about this child that is so special, and I know in my heart he'll do great things. He really is such a strong individual with all that he has already gone through, even though so young. I know I am a mom and want nothing bad to happen to my kid, but I just hope to be done with Doctors for Declan. His first month of life was rough, and I am just grateful that he will not be able to remember that or this...
IT'S OVER...YEA!!

HERE ARE SOME MORE PICTURES OF THE DAY

Sneaky Little Stinker...

So the other day I went to the office really quick because a costumer came into the Motel. Well, Declan was playing with the dogs; which I thought nothing of it. Does that everyday. So it was maybe FIVE minutes top. I can usually hear everything that's going on in the kitchen from the office...but this time it was silent.
I went into the kitchen the dogs were sitting by the kitchen table, but no Declan. I looked in my bedroom, bathroom, his room...NO DECLAN. So I said out loud, "Declan??. . . Declan??" Nothing. Well, I went towards the dogs and I heard Declan start laughing. I guess he started laughing because I was getting "Hotter" at finding where he was...getting closer and closer. So I looked underneath the kitchen table and this is where I found him. In the corner, behind the table...
(He wondered why he couldn't get his head through???)
"Bonked" his head...and trying to think if it hurt or not...
His new hiding spot...Look at his smile! SUCH A STINKER!!

Declan behind the table...

Here are some more pictures of me feeding him and such...

Declan thought I was weird when I wanted him to feed me...ahha
Loves it when it's FOOD TIME!!!
This is ONE of the many reason's why he is called "Mr. Goober"...

Ooopsie-Daisy!!! Does Friday the 13th have anything to do with this...perhaps???? BAD LUCK!!!

(see the bald spot in the front?? UGH)
Well...last night I put Declan in the tub and I was looking at his hair and it was getting long again. It does not even look like I cut it at all; which I did not too long ago. This kid's hair grows so stinking fast...and has tons of it. Declan was destined for a lot of hair, curly, frizzy, thick...well...because that is my hair and Kris's too.

So I started to trim the bottom and top a little. I have been wanting it to be a LITTLE BIT shorter on top and around so I can kind of spike it up...and have it not so frizzy at the bottom. Well...I decided to get Kris's hair trimmers, the electric kind, and clean up the bottom and spots here and there. WELL Declan decided not to be still for a moment...moved down really quick as I was holding him...you can guess---yeah I made a "almost" bald spot in the back. Then I went to the front to fix the length to match the back. You guessed it again...he moved really quick and I made another "almost" bald spot right in the front!!

LONG STORY...SHORT...I MESSED UP DECLAN'S CUTE CURLY HAIR!!! :[ The Little Monkey wouldn't hold still. I tried fixing it as much as I could, as much as he was cooperating...so here are the pictures!!! I was NOT going to buzz it all off. I was determined to make it look half way decent...with some "style"... AHHH!!!

As you can see by the pictures...Declan was really peachy after getting his hair cut...better yet, while getting his hair cut!! Hair grows back right ??? Just do not laugh when you see his hair. It's...the...DOGS FAULT. Let's just blame it on the dogs. They barked, and Declan jumped and there Goes his hair. . . .more than once!

That's my story...and I'm sticking too it...
*Now it kind of looks like a MILITARY CUT...kind of*
SORRY Mr. GOOBER!!!

Vernal Utah Temple...

Rebecca Mullins--Vernal, Utah LDS Temple
February 7th, 2009

So, this last Saturday was a great day to say the least. My sister-in-law, my husbands little sister, went through the Vernal, UT Temple and received her endowments. It was so great, and I am sure it was a day that Becky was truly looking forward too. She is such a great person, and has so much going for her...

She is not going on a mission or getting married. Her Bishop just felt like it was time for her and knew she was ready. She is 24. That just says how special Becky is, and how strong her Testimony is. She is a wonderful sister and a great example of obedience and patience...

Kris, my husband, went snowboarding this last week as well. He took his older brother Sam snowboarding--it was Sam's birthday. I was glad he went. He has been really wanting to do that for quite some time. I am just busy, and lets just say it, I suck at snowboarding. I've only been twice, but I just get kind of annoyed and frustrated that I just can't pick it up quick...but I'll get it someday. *maybe* So...since Kris was out in Utah, Layton area, he traveled early Saturday morning and met us in Manila to all drive together to Vernal. I was so happy he came. It is just so nice to be in the Temple with your spouse and feel the incredible spirit that is there. I am very grateful for him and I am truly blessed...I love him more and more each day.

Kris and I were sitting in the Chapel area before the session began. One of the Temple workers was just staring at me and smiling. So, I smiled back, but I would look away for a bit and he would just keep staring at me and smile. Then all of a sudden he got up and came towards Kris and I. He asked us to be the witness couple for the session. *haha* Kris being the teaser that he is said, "No...she's only been a couple times." *sure blame it on me* He looked shocked that Kris said NO, but quickly after said while trying not to laugh, "Yeah we will." The Temple worker said, "You'll be fine...I know you will."

So, we've been married since May 2006. I went only once that first year that we were married. Then not at all in 2007, busy with pregnancy and Declan being in the Hospital--but went right at the beginning on 2008 because Rachel was getting married. Now, I have gone for 2009. I ,we, definitely need to go more, and that is something that we are really wanting to work on.

I would just like to tell Becky how proud of her I am. She is an amazing person. She has been my friend before I even knew Kris. Becky is talented and kind beyond words. Her Testimony shows by just being around her, and I am so glad that she has gotten to make those covenants in the Temple. What a AMAZING daughter of God she is...

HERE ARE A FEW PICTURES OF THE DAY...

...Just writing How I feel on a few things...

So...this whole economics crisis thing really is not fun right now. Some businesses are not being affected at all by this--but we, the Motel and Bowling Alley are. People just are not traveling right now as much or need to for their business or pleasure-thus I am being affected.

Last year in January the Motel had over $20,000 dollars of money stay here. This year...only $13,000 or less. So you could say "OUCH" and yes we are being affected by this. People are just not getting enough business to have their employees stay here or getting any business out here at all--so I'm not having as many companies stay here as I have had in the past.

So---as of this morning my boss came in and said that I need to cut hours. Not "let-go" anyone, but cut some hours. I have been given an automatic three hours a day or sometimes a little more just depends on how hard they work and if it was a "Bad-day". But now...I'm pretty much going to have to let them work what they work...maybe give them 2 hours a day automatically. But if they are late then that's their fault. If they have to leave soon, then that's their fault. It really sucks to do this. I'm sure I'll get some who really depend on the extra hours get mad or quit--threatening to quit behind my back. But--I'm not going to fire anyone...if some girls quit and that leaves just a few girls to do the Motel, then that will help them get more hours--but in turn they have to work harder-- it is just a win or loose situation... So we'll see how this all works out..."yea me..."

Another thing that has been going on in my mind is... I'm sure this is going to annoy people and I'll just sound like a typical girl--but here I go:

Why do I have to be over-weight?? Sure I had a kid---no excuse really. I see how some moms have kids and they look exactly like they were before having kids--or BETTER. Me on the other hand, not so lucky...I am the heaviest I've been before having a kiddo. It is just annoying. I worked out and was doing good there and eating less, but then that affected my Hypoglycemic tendencies. So then I ate more and still worked out here and there--and it just doesn't seem to be working. I swear I have gained more since I have tried to watch what I eat. It is just annoying to think you are eating better and then get on the scale and see that you've gained three pounds!! I don't care if I have a few curves...but I still want to feel somewhat good about myself---more confident. I guess I am just around ridiculously skinny people a lot--*no names Rachel, Becky, Kym, Kalab, Kris--pretty much all Mullins's except me*...and I just feel like a whale most of the time...

Plus sometimes when I hear people talk about other people saying they are fat or chubby---and knowing with no doubt that I am bigger and heavier-- makes me wonder what they think about me. I don't want to have the perfect body--though yes that would be nice-- I just want to be healthier and more confident. When you see me, you'll most likely see me in a hoodie, jacket, T-shirt and jeans. Yes, they are comfortable and have always been my favorite type of clothing--not the most stylish on earth--but at the same time it "hides" yucky rolls :] or so I think :]

So all you people who have a good metabolism-- BE GRATEFUL! :]

Just how I'm feeling...I'll get over it eventually :]

....Continued...

Well, I did have the meeting Saturday. I was thinking over and over of what I was going to say. If I was going to get mean or yell...cry...just everything was going through my head.

I went out when all the maids were pretty much here, except for two. Well, it turns out that especially one that needed to be here, the one that is doing it...didn't show up. Go figure. I was pretty mad and I kind of showed it when I found out when someone called her phone and it was turned off. So I started without her...and got the little things out of the way that all of them needed to work on...then came the big one. I said, "Now for the not-so-fun thing."

I told them that my boss--your boss, the owner, came to me the other day and said that someone stole money from his room. A lot were shocked and I was looking at all the faces trying to read expressions. Lets just say it got really quiet and they could tell that I was pretty upset. I did start tearing up (when I am upset, mad, I tend to cry--I REALLY dis-like this about me) and told them, "I am your boss. I need to do my job. I know if I fire this one person, if it happens again, that some are going to get mad and I am just going to have to not care. I can not do this anymore or be walked on. I can not let this happen EVER again."

I told them that I try to be as friendly as a boss as I can. Be nice to everyone. Give everyone a chance-- but if I had someone take advantage of this job and the situation...I'm going to have to get over being friendly and caring what people think of me and fire whoever is doing this. I also mentioned that I pretty much know who it is; which probably would have scared the socks off of the one--IF SHE WAS THERE. I had all the maids and office girls sign a paper saying if anything ends up missing in a room that they are responsible, especially if proven guilty or happens more than once if they are in the room...and they WILL be fired.

I also mentioned that Fred was going to fire both that were in the room that day, even if the one did not do anything. It is not fair that someone is putting EVERYONE'S job in jeopardy. I told everyone that they should be grateful for their jobs. Especially with what is going on in the economy right now. Thing are getting hard with jobs and money. We should all be grateful for our checks and that there is money to pay us for working.

It was pretty frustrating to not have the one there, but I told her about the meeting on Monday when she walked in. She did not say one word when I said, "Someone stole from the owners room and was going to fire them." She didn't look at me or say ONE word; which she always say something to me...she just shook her head and I handed her the paper that she needed to sign.

I am very happy that this is over with. I am going to keep my eyes and ears open. I have put it in my head that I am going to fire this one if it does happen again---I HAVE GIVEN ALL A FAIR WARNING. I know that a lot are innocent--but there is one that is not.

THE PERKS OF BEING A BOSS...

Thursday, January 22, 2009

WhY mE??

DESSERT ANYONE??
So...I was sitting in the office after all the maids left yesterday. Declan was taking a nap. I was relaxing for a bit. My boss, the owner, walks in and says, "Who cleaned my room?" I was not too happy automatically because something was obviously wrong. I said, "Why?" He said, "Well, someone took some of my money." GREAT!!!! Yea for me right? I have a employee who is stealing, but not just from any person, the MAIN BOSS/OWNER. The one that pays ya, and allows you to work on his property. The one who does not let things slide easy, at all. Trust me, I have seen him with the employees over at the Bowling Alley and to put it plain, mess up once you are gone.

He said he noticed some missing awhile back, and thought nothing of it. Maybe he's getting old and used it and just didn't remember--so he said. Well, apparently something is going on. He made sure when he walked out of the room that he counted how many cups were in his room with change in them, and one turned up missing when he came back. He showed me where it was taken. I was so embarrassed, shocked, nervous because I would have to confront this situation...and maybe even fire someone.

He was pretty calm about it, it was just coins he said-- but the fact is I have something going on. I have someone being pretty dis-honest. So I told him who was in his room. I told him something did happen awhile back. It was pretty close to the same situation. A customer came in and said that $6.00's in coins was taken out of his cup. He was not mad--he just wanted to inform me. So I made a mental note and also wrote down the situation and who was in that room that day.

Well, one of those girls is gone and no longer works her because she moved. But the other one is still here and it happened again--same situation. AHHH!!! WHY? WHY? WHY?!!!! So, it is obvious right? So, I have pretty solid proof that it this one certain person--since it has happened more than once with the same girl. Fred told me to FIRE THEM. I was pretty upset. I told him the situation that would happen, if I did.

I have many Hispanic employees. I respect and appreciate them all immensely. They help me out in many ways. But at the same time, I help them out and I know I let a lot get away with too much and let things slide more than any boss should or does. I can easily consider myself a "push-over".

If I fire this certain one. Things are going to get ugly, lets say, and I will have more than likely two more quit because of this one getting fired. I have to realize that if an employee is being dis-honest and is not trust worthy and continues this--I can't have them here. Plain and simple.

So, Fred told me to tell them to their face--the ones that were in his room yesterday, "If this happens again and you were in the room, you are FIRED on the SPOT. No question." He did not care if the other one had nothing to do with it--he wanted me to FIRE BOTH.

Me do that? Me say that? Okay...talking to the wrong person who does not like to deal with confrontation and does not like people to get upset or mad. Try to make things all hunky-dory and let people have second chances. Well...he calmed down a bit--and I told him what I would do.

So, I'm having a meeting this Saturday. I usually look VERY forward to weekends, but this one is not going to be that great to start off with . To make it fair and as easy for me as possible, I am having everyone be there. ALL MY EMPLOYEES--housekeeping, laundry and office, so no one feels picked on or threatened. So all are informed and have been WARNED that if this happens again, they will-with no doubt, BE FIRED.

I have come to realize that I have to do this. That I have to get "mean" and confront the situation instead of blowing it off--be strong. It can't happen anymore. I am a "boss" and I should not care what employees think. I guess I am just nervous because I do not want anyone to hate me. Be mad, but I am a boss, and I need to act like one. All I hope for is that after this meeting is that all the girls that are not guilty KNOW they are fine, but those who have thought about stealing money from rooms or have and haven't been noticed will reconsider and resist the action.

I am probably the easiest boss anyone could ever have. I let them call in and get the day off, be late, have pretty much whatever day off you need, give you the schedule you want...give you extra hours...just many things--and it is just a slap in the face when you help someone out, but in turn they take advantage of you and do sneaky things behind your back...We shall see what happens. I might have some get offended and quit right then and there. Or quit later. Or everything will be fixed and as I say "HUNKY-DORY"...
TO BE CONTINUED AFTER SATURDAY...

CHRISTAMS *belated...a tad bit*

Merry Christmas...
We had a fantastic Christmas week with our families. Christmas Eve my parents came in to give us our Christmas Eve gifts, PJ's...and eat some Pizza and watch a movie. It was really nice and that made it feel more like Christmas. I just couldn't really quite "feel" it this year. Not sure why, but it went too fast...

We woke up Declan about 6:45...which he doesn't wake up until 9 or 10-ish. Lucky me, I know :] But we took Goober straight to the tree, at our apartment, and I'm sure he was wondering why we were waking him up and putting him in front of all these TOYS ?? and he can now touch the presents under the tree that he has been told "NO...don't touch" for so long... ?? hahha--it was great to see him smile and just get into destroying the wrapping paper.
We then went to Kris's parents a little after 7. We waited for Kalab and Kym...and then started opening our presents from each other. I got a lot, Kris, Declan too.
I was just really excited for this day to get see what Declan would do. He had fun. Doesn't know what's going on quite yet...but he'll get there sooner than I want. We also took my fantastic Cocoa maker. It's a Hot chocolate maker...kind of like a coffee maker--but Hot chocolate. You put milk or water in it and then Chocolate mix and it spins it really fast for like 10 minutes and heats it up at the same time. TALK ABOUT CHOCOLATE HEAVEN :]
We had a wonderful, delicious, yummy Christmas dinner around 4...Ate too much of coarse. Later on that day my mom called me all huffy and breathing really weird. It's the breathing that you can just tell that's something is REALLY wrong. She said that my dad has been at a house that has been on fire, putting it out... and went to go check on my grandpa Ellsworth, my dad's-dad... He found him unconscious in the snow face down. He was rushed to the hospital. Later on I found out that he was okay. Got a little frost bit on his feet and other little spots. I guess he was going to go check on the propane and was going off his porch and just fell straight down; which lead to a broken/really bloody nose. He then dragged himself across the yard, in the snow, by his vehicle. He lost his slippers in the process--no socks...and stopped there on the pavement/dirt. He did this around THREE and my dad went and found him at SEVEN. So...but he's doing well. Tough Grandpa. Getting physical therapy and just getting taken care of right now...but all is well...
The next day we went to my parents. We spent the day eating. Opened presents a little later *got tons of what I wanted!!! Camera, video camera, quilt, necklace, clothes...etc.* We played ROCK BAND 2!!! Love it!!! It's so fun. It gets everyone into it...and anyone can do it. Either the drums, singing, or two guitars. It really is a great fun family/friend game I think...
I am grateful for both sides of family. They spoil all of us tremendously. I am very lucky to have the families that I have been blessed with...they are so giving and so fun!!!
Here are plenty of pictures...of both days. Enjoy...Loves Puzzles...Maybe too much....
Grandma gave Declan a HIPPO... :]
